HBO Max releases official trailer for DC Studios drama series Lanterns – HBO Max has unveiled the official trailer for Lanterns, the new DC Studios drama series debuting Monday, 17 August.
The trailer was released during a San Diego Comic-Con panel featuring stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Garret Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan, alongside co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
For Australian HBO Max viewers, Lanterns is one of the key DC television launches of the year. The eight-episode season brings Green Lantern mythology into a darker, Earth-based mystery format.

What Lanterns is about
The series follows new recruit John Stewart, played by Pierre, and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, played by Chandler.
The pair are intergalactic cops who are drawn into a dark mystery with cosmic ties while investigating a murder in the American heartland.
That premise gives the series a grounded crime-drama entry point. However, the trailer also points to the wider cosmic scale expected from the Green Lantern side of DC.
Cast and creative team
The cast includes Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
The series comes from HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King co-wrote the pilot and serve as co-creators, with Mundy also serving as showrunner.
James Hawes directs the first two episodes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov also directing across the season.
When Lanterns premieres
Lanterns debuts Monday, 17 August, only on HBO Max. The first season runs for eight episodes.
For DC viewers, the release places the series as a major late-winter streaming launch. It also gives HBO Max another prestige genre title built around recognisable Warner Bros. and DC characters.
