Jenna Jones wins Glasgow 2026 gold in women’s 100m freestyle S13 – Australia’s Jenna Jones has won gold in the women’s 100m freestyle S13 at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Kiralee Hayes claimed bronze with a personal best after a four-year absence from the sport, while 14-year-old Mia Hogan finished fifth in a standout debut as Australia’s youngest athlete at the Games.
The result gave Seven’s opening swimming coverage another strong Australian story, with Jones winning while competing up a classification and Hayes completing a significant comeback.
Jones delivers under pressure
Annie Williams reminded viewers that athletes in the event have a visual impairment, adding to the challenge of the race. Jones turned first and held on through the closing stages.
Ariarne Titmus said Jones was effectively “swimming up an age group” because she is an S12 athlete racing against S13 competitors. She described it as an incredible swim.
Jones told Titmus she was shocked by the result and had not come into the Games assuming gold was possible. She said she was over the moon after learning she had won.
Hayes and Hogan add to the story
Hayes said she was unsure how the 100m would unfold, but was thrilled to swim faster than the morning heat and return to the Commonwealth Games medal dais.
Hogan told Titmus she was happy to swim faster than the morning and thanked her friends at home for their support.
Together, the three Australian performances gave Seven a layered race story. Jones delivered the gold, Hayes completed her comeback, and Hogan showed why she is one of the most exciting young names in the team.
A strong start for Australia’s Para swimmers
The result also added to Australia’s early strength in the pool. As a result, the opening night gave viewers several medal stories across both Olympic and Para swimming events.
