Hani Watson wins Glasgow 2026 bronze in women’s Para powerlifting – Australian Hani Watson has won bronze in women’s Para powerlifting at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after lifting 147 kilograms.
It is Watson’s second Commonwealth Games bronze medal, following her podium finish four years ago in Birmingham.
For Australian viewers, Watson’s result added a powerful Para sport story to Seven and 7plus Sport’s opening Games coverage. Her post-event interview also looked ahead to the growing profile of Para powerlifting on the road to Brisbane 2032.
Watson celebrates another Games medal
Speaking to 7NEWS reporter Kate Massey, Watson described the result as “what a day in the office” and said she trusted her coach to execute the plan.
Watson said the previous 12 months had been incredibly hard after six surgeries, but she remained focused on goals, personal bests and motivating people around Australia.
She said she wanted Para powerlifting to be “on the lips of every Australian” and felt the sport was building a legacy as more Australians got behind it.
A message for viewers
Watson urged viewers not to give up on their dreams, with or without disability or chronic pain. She said she still had a dream through to Brisbane 2032.
