WIN News launches in Darwin and reaches every Australian state and territory – WIN News has made its Northern Territory debut. The move gives the regional news brand a presence in every Australian state and territory for the first time.
Local WIN News Darwin newsbreaks begin today on Channel 9 on WIN Network. They will introduce viewers to the service before the full weekday bulletin begins. That half-hour bulletin will air at 5.30pm, and WIN will announce its launch date shortly.
The rollout builds on WIN’s earlier announcement that dedicated local television news would return to Darwin. Now, Northern Territory viewers can see the first stage on air. It also marks a significant expansion of local news coverage in the market.
WIN News begins its Darwin rollout
First, WIN will screen local newsbreaks and on-air promotions across Channel 9 on WIN Network. These updates will introduce the WIN News brand and its Darwin team.
Meanwhile, locally based journalists and camera operators will work on the Darwin service. The team will cover stories that affect the city and the wider Northern Territory. In particular, WIN wants local viewers to recognise their people, issues and achievements on screen.
Once the full Darwin bulletin launches, WIN News will produce 23 half-hour bulletins each weekday. All of them will air at 5.30pm. In addition, 26 newsrooms across Australia will support the services.
WIN Network chief executive Andrew Lancaster called the expansion an important moment for the broadcaster.
For the first time, the WIN News brand has a presence in every state and territory in Australia. This is a significant moment in our network’s history and reflects our commitment to investing in local journalism.

Furthermore, Lancaster credited staff across WIN’s operations. He said their work reflected a shared confidence in local news.

A local newsroom backed by a national regional network
National News Director Stella Lauri said the launch showed WIN’s long-term commitment to regional broadcast journalism. She also highlighted the continuing role of local television.
This is a powerful demonstration of the vision WIN has for the future of regional broadcast news. It reflects our belief in the importance of local journalism, the communities we serve and the role regional television continues to play in keeping Australians informed and connected.
Stella Lauri, National News Director, WIN Network
At the same time, the local team can draw on journalists elsewhere in WIN’s network.
Our Darwin team will bring that approach to its reporting, supported by the experience of colleagues across our network.
Stella Lauri, National News Director, WIN Network
For now, the newsroom will concentrate on the issues that affect daily life across the region.
As we prepare for the full bulletin, our focus is on delivering relevant, reliable coverage of the issues that affect people’s lives and keeping viewers informed about what is happening in their region.

Darwin community at the centre
WIN Darwin Manager Steven Shervill welcomed the first newsbreaks. However, he said they also represented another step towards the full local bulletin.
Seeing WIN News on air in Darwin today is an exciting step for our community and brings us another step closer to delivering a full half hour local bulletin for our community.
Steven Shervill, WIN Darwin Manager
WIN already supports 48 events and organisations in the region. It has also built relationships with local advertisers. As a result, Shervill said the station understood Darwin’s community spirit.
Through our support for 48 events and organisations along with the relationships with our local advertisers, we see the energy, generosity and pride that make Darwin special.
Steven Shervill, WIN Darwin Manager
Ultimately, WIN wants the bulletin to become part of the city’s weeknight routine.
The new bulletin gives us another way to contribute to the city we call home. We want viewers to see their community, its people and its achievements reflected on screen, and make WIN News part of their weeknight routine.
