The Great Food Con: Craig Reucassel takes on ultra-processed food for ABC TV – Australians are being sold a diet of ultra-processed foods, but what is it really doing to our health? Craig Reucassel sets out to find the answer in a new ABC documentary series.

In the three-part series The Great Food Con, Reucassel investigates the industry behind some of the nation’s most popular foods. It premieres Tuesday 24 November at 8pm on ABC TV, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview.

The series marks Reucassel’s latest consumer-focused documentary for the ABC. It also adds another Australian factual title to the ABC’s late-year schedule, which TV Central has been following in its ABC coverage.

Along the way, Reucassel follows Australian families as they navigate the confusing world of additives, ingredient labels and food advertising. He asks a simple question: do we really know what’s in our food?

The series also takes a hard look at food regulation in Australia. It questions whether consumers are getting the information they need to make informed choices, and who benefits when they don’t.

Described by the ABC as provocative, entertaining and timely, The Great Food Con challenges Australians to rethink the food on their plate and the system putting it there.

Who made The Great Food Con

The series was commissioned by the ABC and is a Lune Media production. Principal production and development funding came from Screen Australia. It was also financed in association with Screen NSW, with the assistance of VicHealth.
