Kitchen Cabinet with Annabel Crabb returns to ABC this July – It is time to head back to the kitchen, with a brand-new season of Kitchen Cabinet with Annabel Crabb premiering this July on ABC.
The new series begins Tuesday 21 July at 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
Hosted by Annabel Crabb, the eighth season once again takes politics out of the shouting chamber and into the home kitchen. As a result, viewers get a rare chance to see Australian political leaders in a more personal setting.
This season arrives at a noisy moment in Australian politics. The major party vote has fractured. Independents and protest parties continue to jostle for attention. Meanwhile, voters are looking for something more human than another headline or sound bite.
In the new season, Annabel visits the homes of six politicians from the 48th Australian Parliament. Together, they cook a meal, share a conversation and, as always, Annabel brings dessert.
Confirmed guests include Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Opposition Leader Angus Taylor, “Teal” Independent Allegra Spender, Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi and Labor MP Josh Burns.
The series keeps the familiar format that has made Kitchen Cabinet such a distinctive part of ABC’s political coverage. However, this season also lands at a time when calm conversation feels more valuable than ever.
“Frankly, politics feels like a food fight right now,” says Annabel, who has been covering Australian politics for 30 years.
“Who’d run for public office? I certainly wouldn’t. But that’s why I’m so interested in the people who do run for office. Who choose to be a part of it, rather than fleeing the scene like any sensible person would.
“In this eighth series of Kitchen Cabinet, I’m learning about federal politicians from across the political spectrum in the way humans have learned about each other for millennia – by sitting down to eat together.”
The new season comes from the acclaimed team behind The House, Ms Represented and Civic Duty.
Production credits include creator and writer Annabel Crabb, director Stamatia Maroupas, series producer Madeleine Hawcroft, senior researcher Carolyn Cage and commissioning editor Jo Chichester.
Viewers can also stream all previous seasons now on ABC iview.
