The episode is titled Holy Cannoli! It brings the crime story and the family story into the same hour, a pattern that has shaped Joe’s summer in Italy.

After the death of his wife Sofia, Joe took a sabbatical and travelled with Angelica to visit family. He hoped to reconnect with her while staying with his in-laws, Gennaro and Elena Da Vinale, who run a seaside restaurant.

Lara finds a life-changing clue

But local murders have repeatedly pulled him into a partnership with Lara. His cooking lessons with the family have also helped him think through the cases. Tonight’s mafia connection raises the stakes for the investigation.

The synopsis does not reveal what Lara finds. It does make clear that her discovery will be deeply personal for Joe, even as he is trying to make peace with Angelica’s choice.
