My Kitchen Rules recap on Channel 7: Harrison and Oliver score 82 at Bloody Bellissimo – Sydney Gatecrashers Harrison and Oliver answered their critics with an 82-point Instant Restaurant on My Kitchen Rules. Their family-inspired three-course menu at Bloody Bellissimo took them to second place in the current round.

The result sits between Krysten and Lucy’s round-leading 92 and Sheridan and Ted’s 69. As TV Central reported in the previous MKR recap, Krysten and Lucy had set a formidable benchmark. Harrison and Oliver did not match it, but they put themselves 13 points clear of the current bottom team.

Inside Bloody Bellissimo

The hipster mates opened their eclectic restaurant in Sydney’s inner west, hoping their cooking would attract as much attention as their clothes. Their menu was Venetian Liver and Onion Ravioli for entrée, ’Nduja Stuffed Squid with Polenta Bianca for main, and Chocolate Pavlova with Espresso Cream and Raspberries for dessert.

Not everyone expected the Gatecrashers to last. Angus dismissed their prospects before the meal:

I’ve actually never felt less threatened in my entire life by these Gatecrashers. I’m pretty sure they’re going home.

First, pasta dough stuck to its cling wrap and threatened the ravioli. Oliver managed to rescue it, although the prosecco-and-saffron sauce left him anxious at service. Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge liked the pasta, but wanted a more substantial dish and better balance from the sharp sauce. Manu awarded six and Colin seven.

Oliver’s Nonno inspires the highest-scoring course

The stuffed squid carried special meaning for Oliver. He learned to cook it with his late Nonno and still makes it every Good Friday.

I was incredibly close to my grandparents, but even ever since my Nonno has passed away, I continue to make it every single year on Good Friday. I just hope that I can do them proud.

The spicy ’nduja divided the guests. However, both judges praised the tender squid and its rich sauce, each awarding nine out of 10. The 18-point main became the pair’s strongest course and gave their overall score its lift.

Manu told the pair:

I really love the way you cooked and braised these squids. The sauce, that was absolutely delicious.

Colin called it “a lot of sauce with a lot of love.” Meanwhile, away from the food, Angus compared the hosts to a bargain-bin version of himself and Simon. Manu also dubbed Alisha and Deanne the loudest contestants in the show’s 16 years.

A family pavlova and an 82-point finish

For dessert, Harrison turned to a chocolate pavlova he grew up making with his mother. The judges enjoyed its crisp exterior and gooey centre. Still, they wanted less cream and more acidity from the raspberries. Each scored the dessert seven.

Among the guests, Alisha and Deanne were the strongest supporters with nine out of 10. Angus and Simon, Sheridan and Ted, Zoe and Zac, and Krysten and Lucy each gave seven. That made 37 out of 50 from the guest teams. Added to the judges’ 45 out of 60, Harrison and Oliver finished on 82 out of 110.

The score brought an emotional response from Harrison:

I’m so relieved. I’m so proud of Oliver. These are happy tears.
