LIV Golf to wind down: what it means for Channel 7 viewers — LIV Golf has told a US bankruptcy court it is winding down, leaving Australian viewers without another tournament to watch under Channel 7’s existing LIV coverage arrangements.

The decision follows the end of LIV’s 2026 season. Its Indianapolis tournament in August closed the revised calendar. LIV cancelled the planned Michigan finale. As a result, Channel 7 and 7plus have no remaining 2026 LIV event to air.

For Australian viewers, the immediate consequence is clear. The golf series Seven carried live and free has stopped staging events. However, LIV’s decision does not establish the legal status of its Channel 7 deal. Nor does it tell us what Seven might air in future golf slots.

What happened to LIV Golf?

Associated Press reported on the November 5 court hearing. LIV has abandoned its proposed LIV 2.0 restructuring and now plans to wind down the business. The league filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. Meanwhile, a proposed BC Partners investment in a smaller successor competition fell through.

The wind-down will take time. Corporate and contractual matters remain unresolved. Nevertheless, the move removes the proposed route to a 2027 competition that LIV discussed earlier.

Where does that leave Channel 7?

Channel 7’s LIV coverage gave Australian audiences free access to the international tour. In 2025, LIV announced a multi-year extension with Seven. The deal covered live rounds on the network and 7plus.

The 2026 competition has finished, and LIV plans to wind down. Therefore, Channel 7 has no confirmed future LIV rounds to broadcast. Seven has not announced a formal end to its rights agreement. Neither party has published the contract terms. Seven would also need to announce any replacement programme or new golf deal.

What about LIV Golf Adelaide?

LIV Golf Adelaide gave local fans an event and a reason to follow the global tour on free-to-air television. Adelaide hosted the tournament again in 2026. Anthony Kim won the individual title, while the all-Australian Ripper GC took the team event.

The wind-down also raises serious questions about another LIV event in Adelaide. For now, organisers have not clarified future venue arrangements or ticket commitments.
