Forgotten Island featurette introduces DreamWorks’ new island adventure – Universal Pictures Australia has released a new featurette and a full set of character posters for Forgotten Island, the upcoming DreamWorks Animation film opening only in Australian cinemas on Thursday, 17 September.

The featurette gives audiences a closer look at the voice cast and the film’s Filipino-inspired world, with H.E.R. and Liza Soberano leading the story as lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa.

For Australian cinema audiences, Forgotten Island arrives as a fresh original animated release from DreamWorks rather than a franchise sequel. That gives the film a useful point of difference in the school-holiday family market, especially with its friendship story, fantasy setting and voice cast spanning music, comedy, television and film.

What is Forgotten Island about?

Forgotten Island follows high school graduates Jo and Raissa, best friends since grade school who are about to head in different directions as adulthood begins.

While celebrating their last night together, the pair discover a mysterious portal that transports them to Nakali, a fantastical island filled with magical and mythological creatures they grew up hearing about from their Filipino families.

Some of the figures they encounter become allies, while others are far more dangerous. Jo and Raissa are joined by the well-meaning but hapless weredog Raww, voiced by Dave Franco, and a small but determined group of companions.

Their greatest threat is The Dreaded Manananggal, voiced by Lea Salonga. When Jo and Raissa learn that returning home may cost them the memories of their entire friendship, they must find a way off the island before they forget each other forever.

Forgotten Island cast and creative team

Forgotten Island stars Grammy and Academy Award winner H.E.R. as Jo and Liza Soberano as Raissa. The voice cast also includes Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Ronny Chieng and Lea Salonga.
