Prime Video unveils first look at The Love Hypothesis ahead of September premiere – Prime Video has released the first images from its highly anticipated adaptation of The Love Hypothesis, with the romantic comedy set to stream globally this September.

Based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel, the film stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman and premieres 23 September exclusively on Prime Video.

From viral sensation to Prime Video romance

Since its release in 2021, The Love Hypothesis has become a publishing phenomenon, capturing readers with its blend of academic ambition, witty banter and slow-burn romance.

The New York Times bestseller follows Olive Smith, a brilliant Ph.D. candidate determined to focus on her scientific career rather than matters of the heart.

However, when Olive discovers that her best friend Ahn has developed feelings for her former crush Jeremy, she makes an impulsive decision that changes everything.

A fake relationship with real consequences

To convince her friend she’s moved on, Olive kisses the last person anyone would expect: intimidating professor Adam Carlsen.

What begins as a carefully orchestrated fake relationship soon develops into something far more complicated.

As Olive and Adam establish rules, boundaries and a mutually beneficial arrangement, the line between performance and reality starts to blur.

Faced with unexpected emotions, Olive must confront the possibility that love may not be as irrational as she once believed.

Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman lead the cast

Riverdale star Lili Reinhart takes on the role of Olive, while Tom Bateman portrays the enigmatic Adam Carlsen.

The cast also includes Rachel Marsh as Ahn, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy, alongside Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan.

The film is directed by Claire Scanlon from a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild, with Elizabeth Cantillon producing.

Obsessed Fest appearance confirmed

Ahead of the film’s release, Reinhart and Bateman will appear at Prime Video’s inaugural Obsessed Fest in Los Angeles on 27 June.

The immersive fan event forms part of Prime Video’s new Obsession Is In Session initiative, celebrating young adult storytelling and the communities driving today’s fandom culture.

The Love Hypothesis will feature alongside a range of Prime Video’s upcoming YA titles through exclusive panels, first-look presentations and fan experiences.

One of BookTok’s biggest romances arrives on screen

With its devoted readership and widespread popularity across social media, The Love Hypothesis arrives with significant anticipation from both romance readers and newcomers alike.

For Prime Video, the adaptation represents another major investment in the thriving young adult and romance space.

For fans of Ali Hazelwood’s beloved novel, the countdown to Olive and Adam’s story officially begins.
