Larry David returns with HBO comedy series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness – Larry David is back with a brand-new HBO comedy, and this time he’s bringing some high-profile collaborators along for the ride.
HBO has released the official trailer and key art for Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, a seven-episode limited sketch comedy series executive produced by David, longtime creative partner Jeff Schaffer and Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground.
The series premieres Saturday, 27 June exclusively on HBO Max, with new episodes streaming weekly through to the finale on 8 August.
A presidential celebration with a Larry David twist
The official premise hints at exactly the kind of absurdity fans have come to expect from the Curb Your Enthusiasm creator.
According to HBO:
“President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honour America’s 250th anniversary, and celebrate its unique history on this special occasion… but then Larry David called.”
While plot details remain under wraps, the teaser suggests the series will blend David’s signature observational humour with satirical sketches inspired by America’s milestone anniversary celebrations.
A reunion for Curb fans
Alongside Larry David, the series will feature select actors from Curb Your Enthusiasm, although HBO has yet to reveal exactly which familiar faces will appear.
The limited series will also include a line-up of notable guest stars.
For audiences still mourning the end of Curb Your Enthusiasm, the project offers another opportunity to see David’s unmistakable comedic voice back on screen.
An impressive team behind the scenes
David serves as writer and executive producer alongside Jeff Schaffer, who also directs the series.
The involvement of Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, adds an unexpected dimension to the project.
The former President and First Lady executive produce alongside Ethan Lewis and Vinnie Malhotra.
Since launching Higher Ground, the Obamas have produced a range of acclaimed documentaries and scripted projects across television and film.
