2027 Paramount Upfront: Paramount+ unveils Australian originals and global hits – Paramount+ has unveiled a 2027 Australian line-up led by four new local originals, every match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 and a wide range of international dramas, returning series and films. The local commissions include Mushroom Murders, Hedley Thomas Investigates, Sam Kerr Kicking Goals and The Inspired Unemployed Sketch Show.
For Australian subscribers, the clearest change is the scale of the local slate. The new programs cover scripted drama, true crime, children’s live-action and comedy, while the platform is pairing them with exclusive live football and global franchises. That gives Paramount+ several different reasons for audiences to return across 2027, beyond a single launch week.
New Australian originals
Mushroom Murders is a six-part limited drama starring and executive produced by Melanie Lynskey. She will play Erin Patterson in a series set across the 97 days between a 2023 lunch in Victoria and Patterson’s subsequent arrest. The project is based on the case in which three guests died after being served beef wellingtons containing death cap mushrooms. Anya Beyersdorf is among the creators and writers, with Daina Reid directing every episode. The separate commission announcement sets out a fuller Australian production team and Victorian filming plan.
Sam Kerr Kicking Goals is a live-action series inspired by the Matildas captain’s childhood. Drawn from the books Kerr co-wrote with Fiona Harris, it goes back to an 11-year-old Sam in Western Australia, before her professional career. The story follows her and two friends through football, school, family and the challenges of growing up. A nationwide search for young actors is underway and filming is planned for Western Australia. The series sits alongside the platform’s 2027 Women’s World Cup coverage.
Australian true crime and comedy
Hedley Thomas Investigates brings the journalist behind The Teacher’s Pet to screen. Across six self-contained episodes, Thomas will examine six Australian true-crime cases, working through evidence, unanswered questions and the impact on victims and families. The production says it has access to relatives, detectives, lawyers and witnesses. Warner Bros. International Television Production is making the series for Paramount+ Australia.
The Inspired Unemployed Sketch Show brings Matt Ford and Jack Steele back to their short-form comedy roots. Paramount+ says the show will feature recurring characters, celebrity appearances and sketches about relationships, friendship, Australian culture and millennial life. It is a different commission from the platform’s scripted dramas and investigative factual work, giving the local line-up a broad tonal range.
The new titles join returning Australian productions. Last King of the Cross is coming back for season three and NCIS: Sydney for season four. Aussie Shore’s third season is already streaming. Later in 2026, Paramount+ will premiere the six-part drama Who The Hell Is Hamish?, starring Dominic Cooper and Claire van der Boom. It tells the story of fraudster Hamish McLaren and the victims who worked together to expose him.
Football and combat sport
Paramount+ says it will stream every match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 live. That includes the Matildas’ matches, while Channel 10 will also be part of the Australian broadcast coverage. Every AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 match will stream exclusively on Paramount+ across January and February. The service will also carry Matildas and Socceroos international friendlies, A-League Men and the Ninja A-League.
UFC programming continues, including every UFC Fight Night and the preliminaries for numbered events. Paramount+ is promoting a UFC Fight Night return to Sydney in February, with Australian lightweight Quillan Salkilld facing France’s Benoît Saint Denis. Zuffa Boxing is also exclusive to the platform.
New international dramas and comedy
Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning lead Discretion, a legal thriller based on a short story by Chandler Baker. Fanning plays Lenny, a lawyer who uncovers non-disclosure agreements masking a corporate secret. Kidman’s Sharon is the powerful partner she must confront. Josh Lucas, Stephan James and Colton Ryan are also in the cast.
The Best of Us is a limited series inspired by a lawsuit seeking compensation for first responders who became ill after 9/11. Its cast includes Jeremy Strong, Andrea Riseborough and Barry Pepper. Laird moves to the Scottish Highlands, with Kenneth Branagh playing the owner of Castle Drummoch, who resists a wealthy American attempting to buy ancestral land. Peter Sarsgaard, Jennifer Ehle, Peter Mullan, Phia Saban and Ruaridh Mollica also star.
Anne Hathaway stars in and executive produces Fear Not, based on a Vanity Fair account of serial killer Stephen Morin and Margy Palm, the final woman he kidnapped. Trauma stars Richard Madden as a former Royal Marines medic who becomes trapped in a London hospital during a terrorist siege involving the Prime Minister.
Clueless revisits Cher Horowitz three decades after the original film, with Alicia Silverstone returning. Cher is now a businesswoman with a daughter entering high school. Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King world expands with Frisco King. Samuel L. Jackson reprises Russell Lee Washington Jr., who heads to Texas after refusing to kill Dwight Manfredi.
Making Love, from the creators of Love Is Blind, is a relationship experiment hosted by comedian and podcaster Hannah Berner. Together, these new programs range from legal and crime thrillers to family sagas, sequel comedy and unscripted dating.
Returning global series
Paramount+ has also named a substantial set of returning shows. Dexter: Resurrection returns for season two, MobLand for season three, Dutton Ranch and Marshals for their second seasons, and Landman for season three. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and The Madison are set for second seasons, while Tulsa King is listed for season five.
The broader returning list includes The Gilded Age season four, Mayor of Kingstown season five, Avatar: Seven Havens season two, Yellowjackets season four and South Park season 29. Australian audiences will therefore see the service continue to span prestige drama, crime, westerns, animation and long-running comedy.
Films and family viewing
The 2027 film slate named in the announcement includes Street Fighter, Focker-in-Law, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Scary Movie, Children of Blood and Bone, Coyote vs. Acme and Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour. Paramount+ also points to PAW Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants, Zac Power, The Angry Birds Movie 3 and PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie for children and families.
Paramount+ says it currently offers 30,000 hours across series, films, family entertainment and sport. Its announced entry pricing starts at $7.99 a month or $70.99 annually. Program availability, match schedules and individual premiere dates will become clearer as each 2027 title approaches.
