Set in the wake of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the film follows four leading college-football players who put their fame aside to enlist in the Marines. Before the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they take part in a legendary game involving some of the sport’s biggest names — a match that, for many, will be their last.
For Australian viewers, the release has a local production connection: The Mosquito Bowl was filmed across Queensland and northern New South Wales, with Australian locations standing in for Marine training grounds and the Pacific theatre.
