Pride and Prejudice trailer: Netflix reveals key art for Dolly Alderton’s series – Netflix has released the official Pride and Prejudice trailer, key art and new images, ahead of the series’ debut on Thursday, 3 December. According to Netflix, the series “closes out the yearn-aissance of 2026”.
Writer Dolly Alderton faithfully brings Jane Austen’s iconic story back to life. Netflix says she does it for audiences who cherish it, while inspiring a new generation to fall in love with it for the first time.
In September, TV Central reported that Netflix set a 3 December launch for Pride and Prejudice with first-look images. Now the trailer gives viewers their first proper look at the six-part limited series.

Why Austen’s story still matters
Two centuries on, the story of five sisters, hasty judgements and love that takes its time still captures hearts. Alderton explained why:
Pride and Prejudice is such a timeless story because of the emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812. Embarrassment of your family, fear that you’re going to get left behind, fear that the world is not going to be a safe place for your children as it was for you, mortification that you judged someone incorrectly or that you had been misjudged. We go to that book to see our hearts reflected in it.

Inside the trailer
Lizzy (Emma Corrin) and Jane (Freya Mavor) open the trailer on the roof of Longbourn. There, they debate the dilemma that defined Austen’s era and still resonates today. Alderton said:
I always knew that I wanted it to be the opening line of the trailer, not only because I think it’s so relatable to women now who are looking to find the right partner and looking to find love, who are resentful of how much time it takes over their schedule and their brain, but also because it captures how much Lizzy is a character who’s working things out as she goes along.

Meanwhile, Mrs Bennet, played by Olivia Colman, delivers Austen’s immortal opening line, “It is a truth universally acknowledged”. Alderton said she gave Mrs Bennet the line because finding husbands for her daughters is the central drama of her story. Every time a single man comes into her orbit, she sees safety, and even salvation, for all of her daughters.
Finally, Mr Darcy (Jack Lowden) remains pensive and reserved throughout. However, the closing moments hint that his pride may be softening – the first sign of the love story to come.
What is the series about?
When wealthy bachelors arrive in their neighbourhood, the five Bennet sisters must navigate love, family and society’s expectations to secure their futures. Jane falls for the charming Mr Bingley, while Elizabeth clashes with his proud friend Mr Darcy. However, unexpected encounters and family scandals force Elizabeth to reconsider her feelings and discover the true nature of love.
The series is a faithful, classic adaptation of one of the most iconic novels of all time. It is written by Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper).
