Tonight | History’s Deadliest on SBS 2: disasters and explosions open the series – Natural disasters and explosions open History’s Deadliest with Ving Rhames in two back-to-back episodes. The series premieres Thursday 29 October on SBS 2, beginning at 9:30pm, and is available free on SBS On Demand.
The two instalments air back-to-back. The pairing moves from destructive forces of nature to sudden blasts, giving viewers two different subjects on the series’ opening night.
9:30pm: Natural Disasters
Episode one examines some of history’s deadliest hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and fires. It looks at the scale of events that have devastated communities and the circumstances behind their toll.
10:20pm: Explosions
Episode two turns to explosions. The Hindenburg disaster is among its cases, along with the violent 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. The programme starts from a simple idea – one spark can be enough – then moves across very different historical events.
Ving Rhames’ wider series
Across the full run, the documentary also considers criminals, tyrants, weapons, battles and even islands. The first night on SBS 2 introduces that broader approach through two distinct episode subjects, both presented within the same series premiere.
History’s Deadliest with Ving Rhames airs Thursday 29 October 2026 at 9:30pm and 10:20pm on SBS 2 and streams on SBS On Demand.
