JustWatch TV launches in Australia: what is free, rented and paid — JustWatch is no longer only a guide to where a film or programme is streaming. Its new JustWatch TV service lets Australians play selected titles directly through the website and apps.

The service launched on 20 October with three choices: a free catalogue with ads, a rental store and a paid Plus option. Plus offers ad-free access to many titles. The company’s existing search guide continues alongside them.

That last point is the key Australian viewer takeaway. A JustWatch search result may still point to another streamer. Look for the JustWatch TV Free, Store or Plus label. It tells you whether JustWatch itself can play the title and whether payment is needed.

What can you watch for free?

Advertising supports JustWatch TV Free. The Australian catalogue is live on the service’s website. Its provider page listed 187 titles when TV Central checked it on 22 October. The number will change as rights and selections change.

Examples visible in the Australian free selection included Inside, Blue Is the Warmest Color, Shame, The Nightingale and the documentary Dear Zachary. The new-arrivals area also showed Monolith. These examples illustrate the current mix rather than a permanent library or an endorsement of every title.

JustWatch says viewers can watch the free selection on the web and in mobile and TV apps. Its Australian free-tier page says they can move from search to playback. They need not switch services or sign up for a separate subscription.

How do rentals and Plus differ?

JustWatch TV Store is transactional: a viewer rents a specific film instead of buying a subscription for the whole store. Before paying, check the rental price and viewing window displayed for that title. A film appearing in the rental area is not necessarily included in the free catalogue or Plus.

JustWatch TV Plus is the subscription option. The company’s official description says it offers ad-free access to many catalogue titles and additional features. It does not say Plus unlocks every title on the wider JustWatch guide. We could not verify an Australian Plus price during our check. Readers should use the current sign-up screen rather than assume an overseas price applies here.

Does this replace the JustWatch guide?

No. JustWatch still helps users find where programmes are available across other streaming services. JustWatch TV adds a direct viewing option within that familiar search experience, which could be useful when a title is marked free or rentable there.

The Australian launch report says the service has content agreements with Paramount, Fremantle, New Regency and Bleecker Street. These deals explain where JustWatch gets some titles. They do not mean every film or series from those companies appears in Australia’s catalogue. Check the current local title page before watching.
