Amazon Prime price rise in Australia: what subscribers will pay — Amazon has increased the price of Prime membership for Australians joining from 21 October 2026. Existing members have longer before the higher rate reaches their bill.
The monthly plan is now A$12.99, up from A$9.99. The annual plan is A$99, up from A$79. Australian reports based on Amazon’s email to members say current subscribers will pay the new price at their first renewal on or after 25 November 2026.
For viewers, the distinction matters: this is a rise in the Prime membership fee, which includes Prime Video alongside delivery and other benefits. It is not an announcement of a separate new charge to watch each programme on Prime Video.
How much more will Prime cost?
The monthly increase is A$3, or about 30 per cent. Someone paying the new monthly fee for a full year would spend A$155.88, which is A$36 more than twelve months at the previous monthly rate.
The annual increase is A$20, or about 25 per cent. At the new prices, a year paid annually costs A$56.88 less than twelve consecutive monthly payments. That comparison assumes the member keeps the service for the whole year; a monthly plan remains more flexible.
When does the new price start?
New Prime members are charged the higher rate from 21 October. For existing subscribers, Amazon’s notice says the change takes effect at their first membership renewal on or after 25 November. Therefore, 25 November is a threshold, not necessarily the day every member’s payment changes.
Annual subscribers may not encounter the new fee until their next annual renewal after that date. Anyone considering a switch between monthly and annual billing should check the price shown in their own Amazon account before confirming the change, because a plan switch is not the same as keeping an existing plan until renewal.
What happens to Prime Video and the other benefits?
Amazon says the membership benefits themselves are not changing as part of this announcement. Prime Video remains included, along with eligible delivery, Amazon Music Prime, Prime Reading and member shopping events. This does not mean every film or channel inside Prime Video is included at no extra cost: rentals, purchases and optional add-on subscriptions remain separate choices.
The price change arrives as Australians have more streaming subscriptions and free alternatives to compare. The practical question for each household is whether it uses enough of Prime’s combined delivery and entertainment benefits to justify the new fee. The answer will differ for someone who watches Prime Video regularly and someone who joined mainly for a handful of deliveries.
Before cancelling or changing plans, members can check their renewal date and current billing arrangement in the Prime membership section of their Amazon account. That personal renewal date is the most useful way to work out when the price rise will affect them.
