The Artful Dodger season 3 begins filming in Sydney for Disney+ – Cameras are rolling in Sydney on the third and final season of The Artful Dodger. Disney+ has confirmed Ewen Leslie, Stephen Curry and Broden Kelly as newcomers. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis and Maia Mitchell return as the leads.

Leslie will play Dr Silas Wickenby, Curry is Seth Pecksniff and Kelly takes the role of Sikes. The cast also includes Pamela Rabe and Justin Rosniak in guest roles.

The production keeps a major international streaming series in Sydney for its final chapter. Screen NSW is supporting the shoot through its Made in NSW Fund. It will also back post-production, digital and visual effects work. Disney+ has not announced a premiere date.

Who is returning for The Artful Dodger season 3?

Brodie-Sangster returns as Dr Jack Dawkins, Thewlis as Norbert Fagin and Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox. Their story continues alongside a substantial ensemble of returning Australian and New Zealand performers.

Susie Porter reprises Lady Jane Fox, Damien Garvey returns as The Governor, Tim Minchin plays Darius Cracksworth, Lucy-Rose Leonard is Lady Fanny Fox, Nicholas Burton is Dr Sneed and Vivienne Awosoga returns as Hetty.

Aljin Abella, Albert Latailakepa and Brigid Zengeni are also back as Flashbang, Aputi and Rotty. Disney+ says the final season will bring larger heists, more danger and further adventures for the characters, without revealing a detailed plot.

Newcomer Leslie is an AACTA Award winner with credits including Top of the Lake: China Girl and The Cry. Curry is known for Hounds of Love and Bay of Fires, while Kelly’s credits include Auntie Donna and Colin from Accounts.

Australian production team behind the final season

The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television’s Curio Pictures. Curio’s Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner serve as executive producers and producers. Chris Martin-Jones is series producer.

Ben Young and Ben C. Lucas are directing. Andrew Knight leads the writing as executive producer. Script producer Dan Knight has worked across all three seasons. James McNamara, David Maher and David Taylor co-created the series.

The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Kylie Watson-Wheeler said the team was excited to be filming again in Sydney and continuing the Dodger–Fox story for viewers around the world.

Porter and Gardner said the new performers would join the established cast and creative team in shaping the final season’s high-stakes adventure.

Screen NSW support and where to watch

Screen NSW Executive Director Kylie Munnich said the drama has showcased NSW locations and the work of local cast and crew. The agency’s support covers the new production and subsequent post, digital and visual-effects activity.

Seasons one and two are streaming on Disney+ in Australia. Disney+ will stream season three in Australia. Hulu will carry it in the United States. Disney has not announced a premiere date.
