The Artful Dodger renewed for third and final season on Disney+ – Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis and Maia Mitchell will return for one last collection of heists, romance and medical drama.
Disney+ has greenlit Season 3 of the Australian Hulu Original, with filming due to begin in Sydney in the coming months. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
The renewal gives the locally produced series the chance to conclude on its own terms. It also extends one of Disney+’s strongest Australian commissions: the platform says The Artful Dodger is its most-watched Australian Original title to date.
Lead cast returning for The Artful Dodger Season 3
Thomas Brodie-Sangster returns as brilliant surgeon and former thief Dr Jack Dawkins. David Thewlis will again play his criminal mentor Norbert Fagin, while Maia Mitchell reprises her role as Lady Belle Fox.
Disney says the final season will be more ambitious, with larger heists, sharper turns and bolder escapades. However, specific story details and additional cast members remain under wraps.
The third-season order follows the international release of Season 2 and its nomination for Best Scripted Comedy Program at the 2026 TV WEEK Logie Awards.
Australian creative team returns
Curio Pictures managing director Jo Porter and creative director Rachel Gardner return as executive producers and producers. Chris Martin-Jones, whose credits include A Place to Call Home and Home and Away, will again serve as series producer.
Ben Young and Ben C. Lucas are returning as directors. Andrew Knight will lead the scripts as an executive producer, alongside script producer Dan Knight, who has written across all three seasons.
The series was co-created by James McNamara, David Maher and David Taylor. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Curio Pictures for Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney+ backs an Australian success
The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand managing director Kylie Watson-Wheeler said the renewal reflected both the quality of the production and the audience response at home and internationally.
Curio Pictures’ Jo Porter said viewers had embraced the program’s mix of adventure, humour and romance. The producers now plan to make the final season more surprising and unpredictable.
The renewal is also significant for Australia’s screen sector. With production returning to Sydney, the series will again employ Australian cast, crew and creatives while presenting a locally made drama to a global streaming audience.
