Troye Sivan contributes original music to FX’s The Shards – Troye Sivan, Leland and Hayes Warner will contribute original music to FX’s new drama series The Shards.

The series premieres Thursday, 6 August, with two episodes exclusively on Disney+ in Australia.

The new drama comes from executive producer Ryan Murphy and is based on the acclaimed bestselling novel by Bret Easton Ellis.

The Shards is set against the vivid backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles.

Original music for The Shards

Sivan and longtime collaborator Leland revealed the news on their Instagram accounts.

The pair will contribute original music to the series, helping shape the show’s world of suspense, seduction and obsession.

Original music will also come from rising pop artist Hayes Warner.

Warner also stars in the series as Debbie Schaffer.

She was previously named People Magazine’s Artist to Watch and has built a growing pop profile through releases including Predator and Breadcrumbs.

The songs have been inspired by the show’s 1980s setting.

A dark new drama from FX

The Shards follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school in Los Angeles.

The students are navigating identity, sex, jealousy, obsession and the darker forces beneath American adolescence.

At the centre of the story is Bret, played by Igby Rigney.

Bret is an aspiring writer and observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel after the arrival of a mysterious new student.

That student is Robert Mallory, played by Homer Gere.

Robert transfers into the school just before senior year. At the same time, terror grows across the city as a serial killer known as The Trawler targets teenagers.

Alongside Bret is an elite social circle drawn into wealth, beauty, parties and excess.

That group includes Susan Reynolds, played by Kaia Gerber, Debbie Schaffer, played by Hayes Warner, and Thom Wright, played by Graham Campbell.

The drama also explores the dark and cynical adult world surrounding them.

The adult characters include Terry Schaffer, played by Wes Bentley, Liz Schaffer, played by Evan Rachel Wood, and Steven Reinhardt, played by Jordan Roth.

The Shards brings together the voices of Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis.

The series is executive produced by Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Ellis, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Tanase Popa, Nick Hall, Michael Uppendahl, Max Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey and Brian Young.

The series is produced by 20th Television.

Troye Sivan and Leland

Sivan has become one of Australia’s biggest global pop exports.

The Perth-raised singer, songwriter and actor has achieved more than 26 billion streams and 10 million adjusted albums sold worldwide.

His 2023 single Rush earned major international attention, including two Grammy nominations.

He also earned a third Grammy nomination for Got Me Started.

Leland is a Golden Globe-nominated songwriter, producer and DJ.

He has written songs for artists including Sivan, BTS, Ariana Grande, Kelsea Ballerini, Charli XCX, Cher and Selena Gomez.

His television work also includes RuPaul’s Drag Race, Love, Victor and The Other Two.

With Sivan, Leland and Warner contributing original music, The Shards is shaping as a stylish and dark new addition to the Disney+ drama slate.

The Shards premieres Thursday, 6 August exclusively on Disney+in Australia.
