Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Stan - Day 10 Recap
Matt Denny took just two throws to automatically qualify for the Men’s Discus Final
Canoe Slalom
  • Noemie Fox has created history by winning the first-ever Olympic Kayak Cross Gold Medal. Noemie won her Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final and was embraced by sister Jess after claiming Gold, the siblings taking a clean sweep of the Women’s Canoe Slalom titles in Paris. (vision)
  • In winning Gold, Noemie and Jess Fox are now the only Australian siblings to win Olympic Gold in individual events.

Athletics

  • Matt Denny is through to the Men’s Discus Final, achieving the automatic qualifier with his second throw of the competition. (vision)
  • World Champion Nina Kennedy will go for Olympic Gold later in the week, never missing a height on her way to the Women’s Pole Vault Final. (vision)
  • Alanah Yukich finished in a dead-heat for second in her Women’s 400m Hurdles Repechage, earning her way through to the Semi-Finals. (vision)
  • Torrie Lewis won her Women’s 200m Repechage race and is now into the Semi-Finals. (vision)
  • Kurtis Marschall finished sixth in the Men’s Pole Vault Final with a clearance of 5.85m.
  • Rose Davies was 11th in the Women’s 5000m Final in a race mired in controversy after the disqualification of two-time 1500m Gold Medallist Faith Kipyegon (KEN).

Diving

  • Schoolgirl Ellie Cole and veteran Melissa Wu have both qualified through to the Women’s 10m Platform Final. It is the first time since London 2012 Australia has two finalists in the event. (vision)
Track Cycling
  • Australia has set the fastest qualification time in the Men’s Team Pursuit with Great Britain and Denmark all within one second.
  • The Men’s Team Sprint will be seeded third going into the First Round, however Netherlands have laid down an early mark with an Olympic Record in qualifying.

Sailing

  • Matt Wearn is assured of at least a Silver Medal in the Men’s Dinghy in tonight’s Medal Race. If Wearn finishes seventh or better, he will defend the Gold he won in Tokyo.

Surfing

  • Jack Robinson has had a long wait to contest his Surfing Semi-Final against Tokyo Gold Medallist Gabriel Medina (BRA), however officials have announced that competition will resume later this morning.

Water Polo

  • After leading 4-0 early, Australia could not stop a rampant Japanese team who scored their first win (14-13) of the tournament. The Sharks are still safely into the Quarter-Finals.

Hockey

  • A day after the Kookaburras were eliminated in the Quarter-Finals, the Hockeyroos fell at the same stage in a 3-2 loss to China.

Armand Duplantis breaks his own world record to win gold in the Men’s Pole Vault
Athletics
  • Armand Duplantis (SWE) lived up to all expectations to take Gold in the Men’s Pole Vault, with the World Record holder breaking his own world record to achieve 6.25m in the final.
  • Noah Lyles (USA) showed no ill-effects from his 100m Gold Medal efforts yesterday with a comfortable Round 1 victory in the 200m. Compatriots Kenny Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton were the only competitors to break the 20-second barrier in moving through to the Semis.
  • Gabby Thomas (USA) is the fastest qualifier (21.86s) into the Women’s 200m Final, winning her Semi by almost half a second. Julien Alfred (LCA) has the chance to complete the sprint double as the only other finalist to break 22 seconds in the Semi-Finals.
  • Faith Kipyegon (KEN) finished first in the Women’s 5000m but was sensationally disqualified after a mid-race encounter with Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay. Beatrice Chebet (KEN) was elevated to first ahead of Sifan Hassan (NED) and Nadia Battocletti (ITA).
  • Valarie Allman (USA) won the Women’s Discus by almost two metres from Feng Bin (CHN) and Sandra Elkasevic (CRO). Feng and Elkasevic set identical distances however the Chinese thrower claimed Silver on countback.
  • After winning Silver in Tokyo at just 19 years of age, Team GB’s Keely Hodgkinson bravely took the Women’s 800m Final to her opponents and came away with Gold ahead of Tsige Duguma (ETH) and Mary Moraa (KEN).

Triathlon

  • In a race which went right down to the last 100m, Germany won gold in the Mixed Relay ahead of USA and Germany.
Track Cycling
  • Great Britain has won the first Gold Medal of the Track Cycling competition, defeating New Zealand in the Final of the Women’s Team Sprint. Germany defeated Netherlands for Bronze.

Gymnastics

  • Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade edged superstar Simone Biles (USA) by 0.033 to win the Women’s Floor Exercise.
  • The pair had earlier finished fourth and fifth respectively in the Women’s Beam which was won by Italy’s Alice D’Amato.
  • Twenty-year-old Shinnosuke Oka (JPN) won the Men’s Horizontal Bar Final while Zou Jingyuan (CHN) successfully defended his Men’s Parallel Bars Gold Medal. (vision)

Canoe Slalom

  • Finn Butcher won New Zealand’s third Gold Medal at Paris 2024 with victory in the Men’s Kayak Cross ahead of Rio K1 winner Joe Clarke (GBR) and Germany’s Noah Hegge.

Football

  • Spain defeated Morocco 2-1 and will now face the winner of France and Egypt in the Men’s Football Final. (vision)
