The film’s stars Alyla Browne, Giselle Philogene, Jayden Boundry, Luca Miller, and Emmi Williams attended the screening alongside the Western Australian creative team, including screenwriter and author Kathryn Lefroy and sibling directors Miranda Edmonds and Khrob Edmonds in their feature directorial debut. Producer Timothy White, co-producers Georgia White and Estelle Buzzard, also attended alongside Executive Producers Bernadette O’Mahony for ACTF, Donna Chang for Stan, as well as Screenwest CEO Rikki Lea Bestall and Amanda Clarke for Minderoo Pictures.

Stan Commissioning Editor Donna Chang said:

“Stan is dedicated to backing Australian stories and takes great pride in being the leading streaming commissioner of local drama titles – but as we know, great drama is a team sport. A huge thank you to the WA Government and Screenwest, and to Minderoo Pictures, all of whom are key partners for tonight’s event and provided essential support to the film itself. Stan is especially proud of our key ongoing partnership with the ACTF, which has been vital in bringing stories like Windcatcher and Whale Shark Jack to families across the country, and we also couldn’t do it without our incredible partner Screen Australia.”

Whale Shark Jack producer/director Miranda Edmonds said:

“Whale Shark Jack is our love letter to Exmouth and the magnificent whale sharks of Ningaloo Reef. We wanted to share the experience of being in the water with these gentle giants and make a film that the whole family can watch together. Most importantly, a film that reminds us that we’re never too small to make a difference.”

Screenwest CEO Rikki Lea Bestall said:

“Screenwest is so proud to have supported Whale Shake Jack. Developed by a Western Australian creative team, set on and around the breathtaking Ningaloo Reef, and showcasing places and ways of life that many of us relate to in Western Australia. A big congratulations to the entire team, cast, and crew.”

Minderoo Head of Biodiversity & Habitats, Bonnie Mappin said:

“Whale Shark Jack reminds us how precious and fragile ocean life really is. We’re proud to support a film that celebrates whale sharks while shining a light on the need to protect the ecosystems they depend on.”

The Stan Original Series Whale Shark Jack follows Sarah’s (Alyla Browne) journey as she tries to recover from an unexpected tragedy and finds herself in the coastal town of Exmouth, WA. She struggles to make new friends and find her feet on land, and even in the comfort of being back with her great-aunt Dot (Rachel Ward), she is desperate to return to her old life at sea. Sarah pegs all her hopes on Jack, certain that when his migration brings him back to Exmouth, her mother will take her out on the boat again. But when Jack fails to return, Sarah embarks on a risky mission to find him.

Alongside Alyla Browne, the cast also includes Abbie Cornish, Michael Dorman, Ursula Yovich, Karen O’Leary, and Rachel Ward.

The Stan Original Film Whale Shark Jack is produced by Timothy White (The Luminaries, I Am Mother), Miranda Edmonds, and co-produced by Georgia White (The Furnace) and Estelle Buzzard (The Lifeguard). Executive Producers are Bernadette O’Mahony for ACTF, Cailah Scobie and Donna Chang for Stan, Kelvin Munro (We Bury the Dead, I Am Mother), and Malinda Wink for Minderoo Pictures. Co-Executive Producers are Deanne Weir, Olivia Humphrey, Khrob Edmonds, and Kathryn Lefroy, and Associate Producer Hazel Walgar.

The Stan Original Film Whale Shark Jack is produced by Cottesloe Films and Southern Light Films, as part of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) / Stan Family Film partnership. Major production investment from Screen Australia in association with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation and Stan. Financed with support from Screenwest, Lotterywest, and the Western Australian Government through the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund, and in association with Minderoo Pictures. International sales by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation.

The Stan Original Film Whale Shark Jack premieres April 2, only on Stan.
