Tiger’s turbulent week after Jarome Luai jumped ship to PNG Chiefs
CP: Last week, Jarome Luai inked a reports 1.3 million dollar deal to go to the PNG Chiefs. He activated that. Did it have anything to do with their performance on the weekend?
LK: Yeah, it was a big week for the Tigers. Obviously, Jarome over there in PNG on the Monday, and then the May Brothers’ re-sign, and then the news about Buller comes in, on game day basically. So it was a massive week for them. I have no doubt that yes, it did affect them, right? It would have affected some players. They would have been chapped. But without Api Koroisau and Buller, you take the two members of our spine, then Dewey in the first five minutes when he does his shoulder.
DR: Let’s just unpack this, because you firmly believe the fact that their captain jumped on a plane, flew to Port Moresby, comes back on the Monday, you think it played a role as far as the preparation is concerned, and attention to detail for the rest of the team?
LK: Well obviously, if you fly to PNG during the week of a game, yes, it’s going to play a factor.
AW: It’s very similar to the Bulldogs. Players miss the flight. If you lose games, this is what’s going to happen.
