Bulldogs have lost their bite. With Matt Burton “at close to a million dollars, is he doing enough?” – Riccio
CP: Have they gone backwards in terms of their performances?
LK: Yeah, well they have. They started off last season on fire and it was a little bit unexpected but they did it off the back of their defence. You can see they have conceded 194 points this year to 118 this time last year. They were the best defensive team last year and it held them in stead the whole year.Their attack is not great, but their defence is the thing that Ciraldo built that club on. That’s his forte. He built that system at Penrith and it’s the thing letting him down.
DR: , you don’t like my idea of moving Stephen Crichton? I was at this game on the sideline and I’m watching a side devoid of energy, devoid of confidence, absolute confidence. There’s none there. When I think about the Bulldogs, I think about their leader in Stephen Crichton and I want him to try and correct this ship. For him to lead them out of this, waiting for six touches during the game, that’s not enough.
AW: He came up with two errors as well. He’s trying but they’re just low on confidence, Dave.
LK: I’m not totally against the Stephen Crichton thing but he’s best positioned in his centres and we’ve seen him move from centre. Last year they were bringing Connor Tracey from full-back playing at right centre, moving Stephen into full-back. We’ve seen him play five-eight at times this year at Matt Burton leave.
AW: I don’t think Ciraldo knows what his best side is. He’s moved Jacob Preston from the right, which has been outstanding, the combination with Lachlan Galvin to the left and he hardly seen any ball the other night. There wasn’t even a threat.
AW: I think their biggest loss has been Reed Mahoney, the man they came up against with the other night. He comes up with a couple of errors in games but he’s actually competing. He keeps his other players honest. Since he’s left, the group hasn’t been happy.
DR: I think it would be that ultimately the future of the Bulldogs is Woods at 7 and Galvin at 6.
AW: Where does your man at 6, Burton, go?
DR: I want to get to Matt Burton because guys, he’s on close to a million dollars. Now as we know, when you own the big bucks, so does the spotlight come. And for Burton, he has brilliant moments, but as a consistent force to lead the Dogs at close to a million dollars, is he doing enough?
