Surfing Super League lands Foxtel, Kayo Sports and BINGE broadcast deal – The Surfing Super League has announced an exclusive Australian broadcast agreement with Foxtel Group platforms for its inaugural 2028 season.

The timing matters. The release landed on the same night Foxtel Group outlined its next chapter under DAZN, with Kayo Sports being pushed as the central consumer sports brand. As a result, this deal now reads as another early sign of how new sports properties will sit across Foxtel, Kayo Sports and BINGE. TV Central readers can follow related updates in our Kayo Sport section.

What The Deal Covers

The Surfing Super League says the agreement will deliver 50 hours of coverage during an eight-week competition window.

That coverage includes seven rounds, 14 round-robin matches and the Premiership Grand Final. It also includes 30 hours of live match coverage and 20 hours of shoulder programming across Foxtel, Kayo Sports and BINGE.

Live coverage is planned for 4:00pm AEDT every Saturday and Sunday. Those locked two-hour blocks are designed for both linear television and digital streaming schedules.

Each broadcast will feature a 10-minute pre-game show. The match itself will run for 90 minutes, with two 40-minute halves and a 10-minute half-time break. A 20-minute post-game show will follow.

In addition, a 30-minute weekly highlights program will air several times each week.

A Made-For-TV Surfing Format

The league says the structure tackles one of surfing’s long-running broadcast problems: unpredictable swell windows.

Traditional surfing events can be hard to schedule because conditions can shift across several days. By contrast, SSL is building a fixed-format team competition. Therefore, broadcasters, sponsors and fans can plan around set weekend times.

Founded by former Red Bull executive and Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater, the Surfing Super League is Australia’s first professional surfing league.

The competition will feature eight franchise teams. They will compete in a 90-minute team format across summer weekends on Australia’s east coast.

The regular season will run over seven rounds. After that, the top four teams will progress to a Grand Final. Season one is due to begin in summer 2028.

SSL says contracted athletes will retain their personal sponsors. They will also earn a fixed $89,000 base salary, with complete gender pay parity across the competition.

Commercial Tenders Open

SSL Chief Marketing Officer Jo-Jo Alpers said securing Kayo Sports as a broadcast partner validated the league’s premise and gave the competition a platform to reach Australian homes.

Foxtel Group Head of Sport and Content Partnerships Nic Goard said the partnership would help showcase the inaugural Surfing Super League season to audiences across the group’s platforms.

Commercial tenders are now open. Category-exclusive league partnerships, jersey and apparel inventory, and beach stadium naming rights are available ahead of the SSL Team Scouting Combines in June 2027.

More information is available from the Surfing Super League.
