Harry Kewell, John Aloisi, Robbie Cornthwaite and Kyah Simon join SBS’s all-star guest lineup

With just three weeks until kick off for the world’s biggest sporting event, SBS has today announced its match broadcast schedule for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, including all 64 games live and free on television as well as live streaming via SBS On Demand. Aussie fans have lucked out with many matches at favourable times, including seven matches in the group stage set to kick off during prime time at 9pm and 20 matches to kick off at 6am. For those that miss the live coverage, all matches will be freely available for catch up on SBS On Demand.

Hosted by respected football presenters Richard Bayliss and Niav Owens and with exclusive commentary from Martin Tyler, coverage on SBS and SBS On Demand will commence from Monday 21 November with the Opening Ceremony followed by the first match between Qatar and Ecuador.

With Graham Arnold’s four-year tenure as head coach behind them, the Socceroos will play their first match against defending FIFA World Cup™ champions and world number four France, with coverage starting from 5am on Wednesday 23 November on both SBS and SBS On Demand. SBS’s coverage of the Socceroos’ campaign to progress from Group D will also see the boys in green and gold face Tunisia from 7.30pm on Saturday 26 November, followed by Denmark from 1am on Thursday 1 December. Both matches will feature exclusive on-the-ground commentary from David Basheer, live from Qatar.

Former international superstars and Socceroo legends Harry Kewell and John Aloisi will be joining the all-star guest lineup on SBS’s broadcast, along with former Socceroos defender Robbie Cornthwaite. FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Matilda and current Women’s Super League star Kyah Simon, as well as former Premier League and Danish international goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen will also share their insights and analysis alongside Mark Bosnich, Craig Foster and Sarah Walsh.

In addition to broadcasting all 64 games, SBS has an exceptional programming and a broad network offering to ensure Australians are kept up to date on all the latest World Cup news, results and analysis. Some highlights include:

  • FIFA TV Preview Show – a programme designed to look ahead to the next day of matches. Airing at 6.00pm AEDT every evening on SBS, the FIFA TV Preview Show is a magazine-style show which provides the most up-to-date information to gear audiences up for the following day’s play. Featuring a bulletin with the latest news on all the teams, with in depth features and team and player profiles, the FIFA TV Preview Show is your daily entertaining guide to the World Cup.
  • SBS will offer access to all 64 live matches with Arabic commentary as simultaneous match streams available on SBS On Demand. The Arabic coverage from Qatar will be provided under a licence arrangement with beIN SPORTS and includes “whistle to whistle” match coverage with Arabic commentary and graphics, beginning from the national anthems until the final whistle.

  • A full replay of all 64 Live matches will be available on SBS as well as simultaneous match repeats for matches on Viceland. In addition, from round 16 a curated selection of the best matches will be played each afternoon at 2.30pm AEDT. All matches will also be available to stream anytime on SBS On Demand.

  • Meanwhile, SBS On Demand will be the digital home of this year’s event. The ‘FIFA World Cup Hub’ via SBS On Demand is where Australians can live stream all 64 games and catch up on match replays, highlights, short-form video extras, mini matches and more to enjoy anytime and anywhere. Stay awake ahead of late games with SBS On Demand’s premium content selection including sports documentaries, series and movies from World Cup-competing countries.

SBS recently launched its new advertising campaign for the FIFA World Cup 2022™ featuring lively, colourful creative spotlighting multiple languages, reflecting the diverse character of modern Australia. The campaign titled, ‘We All Speak Football’ highlights the excitement and social nature of watching a Qatar 2022™ match live, inspiring audiences to tune in the broadcasts and participate in this global sporting spectacle. The campaign runs from 17 October to 19 December.

  • Videos for embedding are available here, here and here.
  • Still images are downloadable here.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup™ kicks off on Monday 21 November, live and free on SBS.
