Liam Paro Chases Boxing History Live On Main Event In World Title Showdown Against Lewis Crocker – Australian boxing star Liam Paro is on the verge of making history when he takes on Northern Ireland’s unbeaten Lewis Crocker for the vacant IBF super-welterweight world title live on Main Event on Kayo Sports and Foxtel tomorrow night.
The Brisbane-born fighter enters the bout with a professional record of 27 wins and one defeat and is aiming to become just the second Australian-born boxer to win world titles in two different weight divisions.
Should Paro defeat Crocker, he will join Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech in the history books. Fenech famously won world titles at super bantamweight and featherweight in the late 1980s and remains the only Australian-born boxer to achieve the feat.
“It’s humbling to be even mentioned alongside someone like Jeff Fenech, but my focus is purely on taking out Lewis Crocker,” Paro said.
“I’ve prepared for a war and that’s what I expect from Crocker. He is a dangerous fighter, but this is for a world title. I want him to be at his best.”
The blockbuster event takes place at Brisbane’s Pat Rafter Arena and features an action-packed undercard.
In one of the night’s most anticipated fights, former NRL stars Nelson Asofa-Solomona and George Burgess will settle their long-running rivalry in the boxing ring.
“We have been rivals for a long time now and it’s good that we can finally settle the score once and for all,” Asofa-Solomona said.
“I feel like I’m getting better with each fight and it’s my intention to make a statement tomorrow night.”
Burgess was equally confident ahead of his professional boxing debut.
“I love the sport of boxing and have always wanted to knock out NAS, so I get to do both tomorrow night,” Burgess said.
“Nelson got lucky in his last fight and I’m going to send him into retirement once and for all.”
Also on the card, Australian heavyweights Dempsey McKean and Liam Talivaa will clash for the IBF Pan Pacific Heavyweight title.
No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose believes the event could be one of the biggest nights in recent Australian boxing history.
“This is a huge night for Australian boxing where we all have the chance to witness history,” Rose said.
“Liam Paro deserves his shot at a world title on home soil. We had to pay a record purse bid to secure this fight but now the whole country can see just how talented Liam Paro is.”
Main Event on Kayo Sports and Foxtel will broadcast the entire card live and exclusively from 7.00pm AEST.
