Flynn Southam declares he belongs after Glasgow 2026 freestyle gold – Flynn Southam has won gold in the men’s 100m freestyle at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Kyle Chalmers also claiming bronze for Australia.
Southam delivered one of Australia’s major pool moments on Seven’s Games coverage, holding off a world-class field before speaking with Ariarne Titmus after the race.
For Australian viewers, the result gives Seven and 7plus Sport another prime-time swimming highlight. It also signals a significant changing-of-the-guard moment, with Southam stepping onto the top of the podium in a race that has long carried major Australian interest.
Southam takes the moment
Seven caller Alister Nicholson described Southam as being in front with 15 metres to swim, before the Australian reached the wall for gold ahead of silver medallist Matt Richards and bronze medallist Chalmers.
Giaan Rooney called it a perfectly executed race, praising the way Southam timed the swim and lifted when the field closed in.
Speaking to Titmus, Southam said he had backed himself in the race and was proud to stand up in a major final.
A confident message after gold
Southam reflected on how much had changed since the previous Commonwealth Games, saying he had been a “little boy” four years ago and now felt he belonged on the international stage.
The gold gives Australia another strong result in the pool and keeps the Dolphins at the centre of Seven’s Glasgow 2026 coverage.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games continues nightly from 7.00pm on Seven and 7plus Sport.
