ESPN delivers NBA Conference Semi Final Lineup Headlined By OKC Thunder-Lakers Showdown – After a stunning opening round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, the post-season enters the NBA Conference Semi Final Stage with just eight teams remaining in the hunt for the NBA Championship, as part of a bumper week of basketball on ESPN.
The 2026 NBA Playoffs has already provided some major shocks and the drama is delivered in another healthy dose with ESPN’s 2026 NBA Playoff coverage.
ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Conference Semi Finals continues with back-to-back live NBA Playoff double headers on Wednesday May 6 and Thursday May 7.
Wednesday’s NBA Playoff double header begins at 9.00am AEST as the Detroit Pistons meet the Cleveland Cavaliers on ESPN2.
The Detroit Pistons finished the regular season as the number one seed in the Eastern Conference but narrowly avoiding crashing straight out of the playoffs against the Orlando Magic.
The Pistons produced a stunning comeback after falling 3-1 down, Cade Cunningham shining when it mattered most.
Cleveland were also forced to go to Game Seven to see off the Toronto Raptors and will have little time to recover, as they try to take down the number one seed Pistons.
Also live on Wednesday May 6 at 10.30am AEST on ESPN, is the highlight of the NBA Conference Semi Finals with the Western Conference Semi Final Series between the #1 ranked Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Thunder are the defending NBA Champion and favourites to go back-to-back. OKC began the NBA Playoffs with a clinical 4-0 clean sweep of the Phoenix Suns in the opening round.
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers secured their spot after a tough 4-2 series win over the Houston Rockets.
The Lakers showed poise to deal with the loss of stars Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves to injury for the Rockets’ series.
Reaves has returned to the court, whilst Doncic is expected to return imminently from his hamstring injury, ironically sustained against OKC.
The star-studded series will be a blockbuster and all eyes will be on the showdown between NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lakers legend LeBron James.
Thursday May 7 delivers another live NBA Playoff double header on ESPN, starting with the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks Eastern Conference Semi Final.
Hope is high in New York City as the number three seed Knicks host the seventh seed Philadelphia 76ers.
Philadelphia pulled off the moment of the Playoffs so far, eliminating the Boston Celtics after fighting back from a 3-1 series deficit.
Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George found their spark and hope to carry that momentum in the crunch series with New York.
Thursday’s double header continues live at 12pm AEST, when the San Antonio Spurs do battle with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Number two seed San Antonio Spurs, led by star Victor Wembanyama will be heavily favoured to advance, as the Timberwolves battle injuries to stars Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo.
