Channel 7 and 7plus Sport set for huge week of AFL football – Channel 7 and 7plus Sport are preparing for a major week of football. The schedule includes the Four’N Twenty Legends Game for Prostate Cancer, the first AFL Wildcard Finals and a packed AFLW Indigenous Round.
The run begins on Thursday 27 August at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium. The Legends Game will air live and free from 7.00pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7plus Sport.
For viewers, it gives Seven a strong bridge into finals football. It also keeps 7plus Sport central to the way AFL and AFLW fans follow the game live and on demand.
Legends Game opens the week
The Four’N Twenty Legends Game for Prostate Cancer will bring together AFL names including Dustin Martin, Lance Franklin and Gary Ablett Jr. The event raises awareness and funds for prostate cancer through the Australian Prostate Centre.
Seven’s broadcast team will include Brian Taylor, Matthew Richardson, Rebecca Maddern, Sarah Hosking and Andy Maher. Billy Brownless and Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico will also be part of the telecast.
Seven Network Head of AFL and Sport Innovation Gary O’Keeffe said the 2026 event would build on the success of last year’s Legends Game. He said it would give fans a star-filled lead-in to finals football.
AFL Wildcard Finals
The inaugural AFL Wildcard Finals begin on Friday night. The Western Bulldogs face Collingwood at the MCG in a do-or-die match for a place in an elimination final.
James Brayshaw and Alister Nicholson will call the match. Abbey Holmes will host, with Dale Thomas and Matthew Richardson providing expert analysis. Xander McGuire will report from 7NEWS.
The finals action continues on Saturday night as Melbourne faces Carlton at the MCG. Brian Taylor and Hamish McLachlan will lead the call, with Rebecca Maddern hosting. Luke Hodge, Kane Cornes, Nick Riewoldt and 7NEWS Chief Football Reporter Mitch Cleary will also be part of the coverage.

Hear The Mighty Roar
After the Legends Game, Seven and 7plus Sport will screen Hear The Mighty Roar. The five-part documentary follows the Brisbane Lions from the aftermath of the club’s merger through to the top of Australian football.
The series starts Thursday night at 10.30pm on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus Sport, depending on market. Leigh Matthews and a generation of Brisbane Lions champions are central to the story.
AFLW Indigenous Round
The week also includes Round Three of the 2026 NAB AFLW season. The competition will mark AFLW Indigenous Round across the next two rounds.
The Sunday schedule is led by GWS Giants and Yartapuulti in Canberra. It ends with Essendon and Richmond’s Dreamtime match at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
