Sunday Ratings – The Block #1 overall in overnights, Savage River rises 62% in Total TV

Analysis for Total TV (9 October, 2022) and Overnight (16 October, 2022) ratings.

TOTAL TV

The Block was the second most watched program overall in the Top 30 Total TV chart, rising 27% to 1, 651 000. Nine News Sunday grew by 4% to 1, 055 000. 60 Minutes increased its audience by 16% to land at 969 000 viewers.

Seven News was the number 1 program overall with 1, 713 000 viewers, an uplift of 4%. During the day, the Supercars Championship: Bathurst 1000 Race had a Total TV audience of 1, 430 000, up 6%. Australia’s Got Talent passed the 1 million barrier with 1, 136 000 viewers, an increase of 18%. The season final of 7News Spotlight was up 8% to 460 000.

The Amazing Race Australia finale was up 28% to 744 000 for the finish line component and up 29% to 628 000 for the main portion of the show. NCIS: Hawaii always attracts a good 7 day uplift, this time 34% to 262 000 viewers.

ABC News Sunday was up 4% to 670 000 viewers. Spicks and Specks was up 24% to 784 000 viewers. The big Total TV champ was Savage River increasing its audience by 62% to 827 000 viewers. Silent Witness grew by 44% to 466 000 viewers.

OVERNIGHT RATINGS


Multi-Channels

Winner: 7mate (3.0%)

Second: 7two (2.3%)


Analysis

Nine News was a winner in Melbourne. The Block was the #1 program of the night, eclipsing the news offerings with 970 000 viewers. 60 Minutes had 530 000 viewers with Nine News Late on 294 000 viewers.

Seven News won the 6pm hour across the 5 capital cities with wins in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Australia’s Got Talent was the #5 program of the evening overall in overnights with 556 000. Murder in the Goldfields which ran for 2 hours from 8:30pm attracted 245 000.

10 News First Sunday had 221 000. There were 217 000 viewers for the 6:30pm portion of The Sunday Project, but that audience increased to 243 000 from 7pm. The launch of The Traitors was on 257 000 viewers with 10 hoping for a big increase next week in Total TV. NCIS: Hawaii had 122 000 viewers.

ABC News Sunday was on 574 000. Spicks and Specks had an audience of 490 000, whilst Significant Others launched with 369 000 viewers. Silent Witness had 223 000.

How the Networks Analysed their Own Performance

PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The 9Network and Channel 9 wins Sunday night as Australia’s No.1 network and primary channel with Total People across all key demos.
  • The Block dominated Sunday night as Australia’s No.1 program with Total People and across all key demos 
  • The Block won its timeslot with Total People across the 5 City, East Coast and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and Adelaide.
  • Channel 9 took out the top 3 programs live streamed yesterday against all broadcasters, with The Block leading the way at No.1.
  • The Block recorded a Live BVOD Audience of 86,000, an increase of +24% YoY.
  • The Block recorded a Live + VOD BVOD audience of 143,000 an increase of +9% YoY.
  • The Block was the No.1 catch up program streamed yesterday against all broadcasters.
  • 60 Minutes won its timeslot with with Total People and People 25-54 across the 5 City, East Coast and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
  • 60 Minutes recorded a Live + VOD BVOD audience of 52,000 an increase of +43% YoY.
  • 9News Sunday was a timeslot winner with People 25-54 and GS+Child across the East Coast and in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Weekend Today was Australia’s No. 1 breakfast program with Total People, People 25-54 and GS+Child across the East Coast and in Melbourne and Brisbane.
