BBC Studios launches Creator Lab Australia for YouTube creators – BBC Studios has launched Creator Lab Australia, a new development program for Australian YouTube creators supported by SBS.
The initiative is aimed at established creators who want to develop digital ideas into stronger content businesses. It also gives Australian creators access to a more traditional screen development pathway, while connecting online talent with BBC Studios, SBS and Changer Studios.
Creator Lab Australia will be delivered with Changer Studios and BBC Studios TalentWorks. It is designed to connect Australian YouTube creators with trusted IP, premium development support and the tools needed to grow ideas for wider audiences.
The program will draw on BBC Studios’ global catalogue, local production experience and relationships with partners including Werner Film Productions, which is part of BBC Studios, and SBS-owned IP.
How Creator Lab Australia works
The program is split into two stages. The Sprint is a two-day masterclass in Sydney on 21 and 22 September 2026. The Accelerator is an eight-week hybrid program running through October and November 2026.
BBC Studios said the program is part of a push to support digital-first talent and connect creator-led ideas with premium production expertise.
Kylie Washington, EVP and Creative Director of BBC Studios Australia Productions, said the program was about helping creators develop ideas with scale, support and structure.
SBS Head of Unscripted Joseph Maxwell said SBS was pleased to support an initiative that gives Australian creators new ways to develop stories and reach audiences.
