East of Eden first look: Florence Pugh leads Netflix limited series – Netflix has released the first look at East of Eden, with the limited series set to debut globally on Wednesday, 1 October.
For Australian Netflix viewers, the series adds another prestige literary adaptation to the platform’s 2026 drama slate. The project also brings Florence Pugh back to a major long-form screen role, with Zoe Kazan adapting John Steinbeck’s novel for television.
East of Eden is described as a modern interpretation of Steinbeck’s multigenerational story, following the Trask family through generations shaped by ambition, betrayal and legacy. The series places new focus on Cathy Ames, played by Pugh.
The cast also includes Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciaran Hinds, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders.
Behind East of Eden
Zoe Kazan serves as co-showrunner, writer and executive producer, with Jeb Stuart also serving as co-showrunner and executive producer. Garth Davis directs Episodes 1 to 4, while Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs Episodes 5 to 7.
Executive producers include Antoine Douiahy, Zack Hayden, Steve Golin, David Levine, Jill Arthur and Pugh. The limited series is produced by FIFTH SEASON and Anonymous Content.
