Recap | MKR on Channel 7 and 7plus (16 September) – Surf and Turf wipeout! High steaks as MKR siblings ignore Colin’s advice.

Tonight on MKR, brother and sister Danny and Sonia from Townsville made everyone feel at home at their Instant Restaurant: The Broasis. Despite the laid-back pub vibe, their food failed to fire, with a total score of 56 out of 110 landing the likable duo on the bottom of the MKR leaderboard.

With a mission to show off local produce, their Townsville Mud Crab with Mango Chilli Dip entrée – “Australia on a plate” according to Colin – impressed.

After Danny sparked up his angle grinder to cut through the crab shells, the judges gave glowing reviews, but felt the Mango chilli sauce detracted from the “delicious, sweet meat.”

The main: Filet Mignon with Garlic Prawn Toppers, Beer Battered Wedges and Bacon Broccoli Salad ended in disaster after Danny ignored Colin’s advice and put the expensive cut of meat into the oven before searing it.

The siblings hoped flavour saved the meal, but their fellow teams were shocked and the judges scathing at Danny’s cooking blunder with the steak.

Manu said: “I have a piece of wet cardboard on my plate.” Colin agreed: “You tried to give us too much and it backfired.”

One element of their main, the garlic prawns – a special dish to Sonia as the last meal she had with her dad before he passed away – was praised, but couldn’t save the dish.

Danny was “absolutely gutted,” believing he let Sonia down, but Sonia disagreed: “He didn’t need to come here (on MKR) with me, and he did. That will forever matter.”

The supportive siblings tried to rally in the kitchen, but their Espresso Martini Trifle dessert didn’t set, leaving them at the bottom of the leaderboard and at risk of elimination.

Also at the table, Mike apologised to Simone and Viviana for accusing Simone of being a chef at the last Instant Restaurant, but also dropped that it was Hannah who told him about Simone’s restaurant business.

Lawrence jumped to Hannah’s defence and tensions simmered as Danny and Sonia tried to save their place in place in the competition.
