Bondi Rescue return moves closer after Waverley Council vote – A return to Bondi Beach is a step closer after Waverley Council voted in favour of bringing the long-running Australian factual series back, according to an announcement on Nova 96.9 Sydney’s Ricki-Lee & Tim.

Nova newsreader and Waverley Councillor Michelle Stephenson relayed the result to the breakfast programme on Wednesday morning, following the council vote on Tuesday night. Her dual role gave the radio team a direct account of the decision.

For viewers, this is a significant hurdle for a series built around Waverley Council’s professional lifeguards and the real rescues they handle at Bondi. However, approval to return to the beach is not the same as a confirmed broadcast date. No filming timetable, new-season order, participating lifeguards or Australian premiere has been announced in Nova’s update.

How the Bondi Rescue news broke

The day before the vote, Ricki-Lee & Tim had discussed the possibility of the programme returning. When Stephenson confirmed the council’s decision, Tim welcomed the news on air.

The announcement answers one immediate question: the council has voted in favour of the show filming at Bondi again. It does not yet answer when cameras will roll, how many episodes may be made, or where and when a new season will screen. Those details will need a separate announcement from the producers or broadcaster.

What it means for the Channel 10 series

Bondi Rescue has followed the work of the council’s lifeguards since its 2006 debut on Channel 10. Its most recent season screened in 2024, with TV Central covering that run. The show’s familiar combination of water rescues, beach patrols and the people behind the lifeguard service depends on access to the location and staff who are its subjects.

That makes the Waverley vote more than a routine location decision. It opens a path for the programme’s return after a gap in new episodes, while leaving the commercial and production details to be confirmed. Viewers should not take the vote as confirmation of a Channel 10 launch date or a Paramount+ release plan.

Nova has made the announcement available to hear below. Ricki-Lee & Tim airs on Nova 96.9 in Sydney from 6am to 9am and across the Nova Network from 6pm to 7pm.
