SBS secures two-year broadcast deal for TCS Sydney Marathon – SBS has secured the exclusive free-to-air broadcast rights to the TCS Sydney Marathon, with a new two-year partnership set to bring Australia’s largest marathon to viewers across the country.
Under the agreement, SBS and SBS On Demand will deliver live coverage of the event in both 2026 and 2027, beginning with this year’s race on Sunday, 30 August from 6.00am AEST. Highlights packages will also be available on SBS On Demand following the event.
A world-class event on Australian screens
As the only Abbott World Marathon Majors event in the Southern Hemisphere, the TCS Sydney Marathon attracts elite athletes and recreational runners from 117 countries. The 42-kilometre course takes participants from North Sydney, across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and through the heart of the city before finishing at the Sydney Opera House.
SBS Director of Sport Ken Shipp said the marathon had become one of the country’s premier sporting events.
“The TCS Sydney Marathon is one of the great sporting events on the Australian calendar, and we’re proud to bring it to Australians live and free on SBS.
As the only Abbott World Marathon Major in the Southern Hemisphere, it now sits alongside the most iconic distance races in the world. But what makes this event special is the mix of elite competition, personal achievement and community spirit that plays out across the streets of Sydney.
SBS is the natural home for an event that reflects modern Australia, bringing together people from all backgrounds through a shared passion for sport. We look forward to sharing every moment with Australians in 2026 and 2027.”
Showcasing Sydney to the world
TCS Sydney Marathon Race Director Wayne Larden said SBS was the ideal partner to showcase the event’s unique atmosphere and international appeal.
“We are delighted to welcome SBS back as our official broadcast partner for the next two years. SBS has an extraordinary track record of bringing world-class sporting events to the Australian public, and their commitment to reflecting the diversity of this nation mirrors everything the TCS Sydney Marathon stands for.
From elite champions chasing podium glory to first-time finishers crossing the line with their families cheering, SBS will tell the full story of a race that truly reflects modern Australia. This is a partnership built on shared values, and we look forward to bringing the energy, ambition, and spirit of race day into homes across the country.
This partnership with SBS alongside our extensive international broadcast distribution partnerships will showcase the TCS Sydney Marathon and our beautiful city of Sydney to the world in a really positive way.”
The TCS Sydney Marathon is supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW. The event is owned by Athletics Australia and managed by Pont3.
The TCS Sydney Marathon will air live and free on SBS and SBS On Demand on Sunday, 30 August from 6.00am AEST.
