Tonight | The Forsytes on ABC: Irene’s secret strains the family – Irene keeps a secret from Soames while tensions within the Forsyte family surface at Elijah’s christening. Jolyon Jnr stays in London despite the family’s resistance, and Soames finally admits what he did to the Herons. It airs Sunday 18 October 2026 at 9:10pm on ABC, with streaming on ABC iview.
The episode places private choices beside a very public family gathering. The christening brings relatives together, but it does not resolve the financial and personal conflicts already dividing them.
A christening brings the family together
Isaac reluctantly agrees to Ann’s insistence that Elijah’s christening be held at James’s house. At the ceremony, Frances and Louisa share an acknowledgement of the limits they face. Jolyon Jnr, meanwhile, has decided to remain in London. His assurances that he will not interfere in the family’s lives do little to prevent rejection from the Forsytes.
Soames and Irene confront hidden truths
Soames welcomes Irene back from another monthly trip to Brighton, unaware of the reason behind her absences. He later tells her that he ruined the Herons financially. Irene, shaken by a narrow escape, confides in June that the trips are how she avoids becoming pregnant. Alexandra’s arrival in London adds another development to a family already struggling with what its members disclose and what they keep to themselves.
