Tonight | Fleishman Is in Trouble on SBS 2: Toby’s fresh start unravels – Newly divorced Toby Fleishman returns to dating, only for his ex-wife Rachel to disappear and leave him caring for their children. SBS 2 begins the eight-part drama with episodes one and two in a single Sunday-night highlight. It airs Sunday 18 October 2026 at 8:30pm and 9:25pm on SBS 2, with streaming on SBS On Demand.

Adapted from Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s novel, the series turns Toby’s apparent fresh start into a family mystery. His new freedom and unexpected childcare crisis arrive almost at once.

Episode one: an early drop-off

Toby, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is enjoying success with app-based dating that eluded him when he was younger. Rachel, played by Claire Danes, drops off their children early, but Toby still plans to keep a date with a woman he met online. The ordinary conflict of scheduling time after divorce soon gives way to something more troubling when Rachel vanishes.

Episode two: Toby adjusts

With Rachel still absent, Toby tries to manage the childcare crisis she left behind. He also hears about a new opportunity at work, forcing another decision while his home life is unsettled. Lizzy Caplan and Adam Brody also star in the series. The two opening episodes establish how quickly Toby’s plans for a new summer are overtaken by responsibilities and questions he cannot easily resolve.
