Tonight | Recipe of the Year on ABC: the home cooks fire up the BBQ – Recipe of the Year moves outdoors tonight. The seven remaining home cooks fire up the barbecue to create their best BBQ recipes. The episode airs at 7.30pm on ABC and ABC iview.
This is episode five of seven, so only two episodes remain after tonight. Every elimination now brings the final much closer.
The series celebrates the recipes Australians love to cook at home. Each week, the cooks bring dishes with meaning, and the farm setting keeps the focus on honest food.
SES volunteers judge the barbecue
This week’s judges are front-line volunteers of the SES. They are the people who turn out for storms, floods and emergencies, and tonight they are hungry.
A crowd gathers on the farm to taste the food and vote. As the smell of the grill drifts across the paddocks, the pressure on the cooks rises.
A CWA classic and backyard favourites
Across the episode, the cooks take on two tasks. First, there is a classic CWA recipe. Then they cook their own barbecue favourites.
On the grill, smoke and timing matter. So do bold flavour and the instinct to cook something a crowd will love.
Barbecue cooking looks simple, but a few minutes too long can ruin a dish. With a crowd waiting, there is little room for error.
By the end of the day, one more home cook will leave the farm. That leaves six to fight on for the title.
