Tonight | Crime Night! on ABC: citizen sleuths face the risks of solving crime – Julia Zemiro and the panel examine what amateur investigators can contribute to a case, and where their methods can go wrong. Crime Night! airs Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 9.00pm on ABC and ABC iview.

The episode places the enthusiasm of citizen sleuths beside the privacy and evidentiary risks that can follow when ordinary people investigate crimes.

Citizen sleuths and ethical hacking

Zemiro is joined by David Bartlett, Danielle Reynald, Dave Thornton and Jessie Stephens. The panel considers the Somerton Man mystery and the potential for amateur investigators to help uncover leads.

Lou Wall looks at hackathons, where ethical hackers apply their skills to police investigations. The programme asks how such work can be useful without overlooking its limits.

Stephens volunteers to be ethically hacked for the Experiment of the Week. The demonstration shows how much information about one person can be found online and why that matters beyond a television challenge.

Crime Night! Season 2 episode 2 airs Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 9.00pm on ABC and ABC iview.
