Tonight | 70 Up on SBS: the landmark Up series reaches its final chapter – The long-running documentary project meets its participants as they turn 70 and look back across lives filmed over 63 years. 70 Up airs Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 8.30pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.

The programme carries unusual weight because viewers have been able to revisit the same people at successive stages of life, rather than meeting a new cast each time.

Seven decades of lives on screen

The Up series began with children drawn from different parts of British society. It returned to the same group over the years, recording the events and choices that shaped them.

Asif Kapadia takes over from Michael Apted, who died in 2021. The new instalment allows the participants to reflect on the lives audiences have followed for more than six decades.

Both episodes of 70 Up are available on SBS On Demand from 3 October, ahead of SBS broadcasts on 7 and 14 October. Earlier entries from 7 Up through 63 Up are also available on the service, offering a way to revisit the series before its conclusion.

70 Up Episode 1 premiere airs Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 8.30pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
