Tonight | Ages of Ice on ABC: scientists head into the frozen wilderness – Ages of Ice takes viewers from Antarctica to the Arctic tonight. The new three-part documentary series follows researchers into the heart of our planet’s frozen wilderness. Episode one airs at 8pm on ABC and ABC iview.
It is a high-stakes journey. The scientists push the boundaries of exploration, working in some of the most remote places on Earth.
Polar science is often seen through data and charts. This series puts the focus on the people who travel to the ice to collect that information.
Ages of Ice goes to the ends of the Earth
At the farthest reaches of the planet, the landscapes are staggeringly beautiful. However, they are also dangerous.
The scientists venture into the ice to unlock the story of Earth’s climate. Along the way, they scale jagged peaks, battle brutal storms and ski across frozen deserts.
Tracking a changing climate
Their goal is to track how polar regions are transforming. Each mission is an act of discovery.
For example, the researchers want to understand how glaciers move and how oceans rise. They also compare the rhythms of the past with the quickening tempo of today.
As a result, the series links spectacular polar scenery with questions that matter far beyond the ice. The first of three episodes sets the scene for that journey.
The remaining two episodes continue the expedition. Together, they show how much of our climate story is written in the ice.
Don’t miss Ages of Ice, Tuesday 3 November at 8pm on ABC and streaming on ABC iview.
