Julia Donaldson’s Zog coming to ABC Kids in August – ABC Kids will premiere the new animated series Zog, inspired by the books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
Zog launches at 6.25pm on Saturday 22 August on ABC Kids and ABC iview.
For Australian families, the series brings another major Donaldson and Scheffler adaptation to ABC Kids. It also extends a popular animated world that has already connected with audiences through Zog and Zog and the Flying Doctors.
New Series For ABC Kids
ABC says the animated comedy adventure follows Doctor Princess Pearl, Sir Gadabout the Great and their dragon friend as they soar across the land treating their fantastical friends.
Each case tests the trio’s abilities. Their patients include ogres sprouting mushrooms and unicorns with acute anxiety.
The group does not always work smoothly. However, ABC says the trio pulls together when needed, learns to become better doctors and helps make their community happier and healthier.
From Books To Screen
The new series builds on the success of the International Emmy-winning special Zog, released in 2018, and the sequel Zog and the Flying Doctors, released in 2020.
The series is produced by Magic Light Pictures in association with BBC Studios Kids & Family. BBC Studios is handling global sales.
The production was commissioned in the UK and Germany by the BBC and ZDF respectively.
Donaldson and Scheffler’s stories have become a reliable part of family viewing, with screen versions often built around adventure, humour and gentle lessons for younger audiences.
