Foreign Correspondent: Lebanon: Caught in the Crossfire airs Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 8.00pm on ABC and ABC iview.
Foreign Correspondent travels to southern Lebanon as reporter Stephanie March examines the crisis unfolding in the shadow of the US/Israel-Iran war.
The episode looks at the human cost of a conflict that has displaced tens of thousands of Lebanese people and left parts of the country caught between Israeli military action and Hezbollah’s role inside Lebanese life.
Lebanon: Caught In The Crossfire
In the early days of the war, the Israeli Defense Forces launched a ground invasion after rocket attacks by Hezbollah, Iran’s Lebanon-based proxy militia.
In the months that followed, the IDF seized and occupied six percent of Lebanese territory, destroying homes and buildings and forcing communities from their towns.
March reports from the heart of the crisis in southern Lebanon, seeing the damage firsthand and speaking to people living with the consequences of a war they did not start and cannot end.
The episode also examines how Hezbollah has become enmeshed in Lebanese life, and why civilians are paying such a heavy price as the conflict continues around them.
