Tonight | Off the Grid with Colin and Manu on Channel 7: dolphins in Akaroa and a Christchurch feast – Off the Grid with Colin and Manu heads to New Zealand’s South Island tonight. The trip starts in Akaroa and finishes in Christchurch. The episode airs at 9.05pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
In the second season, Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel travel the length of Aotearoa in a small caravan. The show is a no-rules food adventure. It mixes roadside cook-ups with the people and places that make each region different.
For the MKR judges, it is a very different setting to the competition kitchen. Instead of scoring dishes, they chase ingredients, meet locals and cook wherever they land.
Swimming with dolphins in Akaroa
First, the episode opens in Akaroa, where the boys get into the water to swim with dolphins. The harbour town sits on Banks Peninsula, east of Christchurch. As a result, the stop gives the pair a break from the road before the next feed.
A smash burger feast in Christchurch
Next, Colin and Manu roll into Christchurch to meet Pipiri for a smash burger feast. It is the kind of casual, shared meal the series is built around. In turn, the food leads to conversation and local stories.
After that, the city stop ends with a classic sausage sizzle. Then the pair join locals for a morning swim. Overall, this leg is as much about community as cooking.
Across the season, every stop is about connection as well as a meal. For example, the pair learn local traditions and celebrate the landscapes and communities along the way.
Don’t miss Off the Grid with Colin and Manu, Tuesday 20 October at 9.05pm on Channel 7 and streaming on 7plus.
