Tonight | Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7: Aunty Beryl cooks and Charlie revives a garden – Johanna meets Gamilaroi Elder Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo. Meanwhile, Charlie rescues a neglected garden before summer. Better Homes and Gardens airs this Friday at 7.00pm on Channel 7 and 7two.

Aunty Beryl, 84, has released her first cookbook after decades in hospitality. She and Johanna bake lemon myrtle butter biscuits using native Australian ingredients.

The episode also has practical ideas for spring. Charlie restores a side passage, while Graham visits a historic Sydney garden in bloom. Food, wildlife and home organisation complete the Friday line-up.

Cooking with Aunty Beryl and Colin

Aunty Beryl has run kitchens, cafes and a catering business. She has also been honoured with an Order of Australia. Johanna joins her to hear about that career and cook together.

Colin makes Middle Eastern-spiced lamb cigars with chilli, coriander, cumin and paprika. Then he wraps the mince in steamed silver beet leaves and cooks it on the barbecue. Spiced chickpeas and yoghurt go alongside.

For a quick dinner, Clarissa prepares sesame-and-panko-crumbed pork cutlets. She adds a sugar snap pea and edamame salad with ginger-honey-sesame dressing. The meal takes less than 30 minutes to make.

A garden rescue and a spring walk

Charlie’s starting point is an overgrown, depleted side passage. He turns it into a fragrant Australian cottage garden. Along the way, he shares advice on trimming hedges and tending raised beds before summer.

Graham heads to Wistaria Gardens in Parramatta Park. The Edwardian garden dates back to the 1920s. Its spring display includes purple, mauve and white wisteria, other flowers and heritage trees.

Komodo dragons, cleaning and a floating cube

At the Australian Reptile Park, Dr Harry meets Komodo dragons and a hatchling named Sunda. In 2022, the park became Australia’s first zoo to breed and hatch the lizards. Harry learns how its team works to protect them.

Elsewhere, Juliet tackles spring cleaning room by room, from the playroom to the front deck. Adam builds a wooden cube display using clear nylon thread. The finished gadget looks as though it floats beside its upright frame.
