Tones And I twist leaves The Voice coaches spinning on Channel 7 – The Voice delivered a major Blind Auditions twist tonight as Tones And I was revealed as the show’s secret fifth coach.
The reveal came after Melanie C, Ronan Keating, Richard Marx and Kate Miller-Heidke believed their teams were complete.
For Channel 7, the twist gives The Voice a late-audition jolt and a clear next-night talking point, while also giving viewers a new reason to follow the second-chance artists as the competition continues.
Host Sonia Kruger stunned the coaches by revealing that Tones And I had been watching every Blind Audition, every chair turn and every missed opportunity from behind the scenes.
Second-chance artists return
Tones And I said some artists deserved another moment after nerves or tough timing cost them during their first audition.
She explained that several singers had been genuinely impressive, but had arrived late in the Blind Auditions when the coaches were being more selective.
The twist also created tension. Richard Marx reminded the returning artists that the singers already on the coaches’ teams had earned their places with only one chance.
However, Tones And I pushed back, noting that Richard had often admitted he had made mistakes by not turning his chair.
Big Blind Audition moments
Eighteen-year-old Canberra artist Litia Keni earned three chair turns with an emotional performance of Beyonce’s Listen. After working with Tones And I, Litia secured a place on Team Melanie C.
Carla Venkataya, 18, from Victoria, also made the most of her second chance. Her performance of The Wizard and I from Wicked earned two chair turns and a place on Team Kate.
The night’s biggest comeback belonged to Victorian singer Georgia Dabbous. The 26-year-old returned with a performance of Jazmine Sullivan’s Bust Your Windows and earned a four-chair turn.
Ronan Keating praised Georgia’s voice as captivating, while an emotional Tones And I said the result showed why the second-chance twist mattered.
The Voice continues 7.30pm Monday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
