The Voice on Channel 7: Richard Marx’s shock decision leaves competition reeling – The Voice has locked in its Quarter Finalists after two dramatic nights of Knockouts, but it was Richard Marx’s shock call that left the competition reeling.
Across the Knockouts on Channel 7 and 7plus, artists performed in groups of three or four. Only one singer from each Knockout could advance directly, while each Coach had one save to rescue a defeated artist from another team.
The episode gives The Voice a major talking point heading into the Quarter Finals. It also sharpens the stakes for viewers, with the Coaches now forced to back their final artists before the race to the Semi Finals begins.
Richard Marx Makes A Shock Call
In the night’s biggest moment, Marx declined to put Cherry Green, Saem Millward or Dicko through from his final Knockout.
After their performances, Marx told the artists he did not feel any of them had risen to the occasion. He then made the unprecedented decision to leave a Quarter Final spot vacant on his team.
The call stunned host Sonia Kruger and the other Coaches. Ronan Keating said he had worked on The Voice around the world for 15 years and had never seen anything like it.
Standout Performances
The Knockouts also delivered several major performances. Leyla Sabo, 12, earned strong praise for her version of Sienna Spiro’s You Stole The Show, with Melanie C calling her a possible winner.
Other highlights included Tommy Novak’s take on Celine Dion’s All By Myself, Cleo Paladino performing Ariana Grande’s God Is A Woman, Phoebe Rose singing Lady A’s Need You Now, Yung Milla performing Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise and Charlotte June taking on R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts.
There were also two dramatic save battles. Taylor Beadle-Williams was pursued by all three rival Coaches after missing out on a Quarter Final spot with Team Kate, before choosing Team Melanie C.
The 60Four also attracted interest from Richard and Ronan before selecting Team Ronan. Kate Miller-Heidke used her save on Daisha Auda, while Richard kept teen rock band Wave Raiders in the competition.
