Verity clips reveal Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson’s tense first meeting – Amazon MGM Studios has released the first official clips from Verity, offering an extended look at Anne Hathaway as acclaimed author Verity Crawford and Dakota Johnson as struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh. The psychological thriller opens in Australian cinemas on Thursday, 1 October. The scenes move beyond the film’s trailers by showing the uneasy relationship at the centre of Colleen Hoover’s story. They also give audiences a closer look at the remote Crawford estate, where professional opportunity, attraction and manipulation begin to overlap.

In the first clip, titled Meeting Verity, Lowen comes face to face with the author whose work she has been hired to continue. Hathaway and Johnson establish an immediate sense of uncertainty around the meeting, reflecting a story in which appearances and motives cannot be trusted.

The second scene, Say Something, builds on the film’s psychological tension. It places the focus on the characters rather than revealing the larger mystery, while showing the restrained atmosphere director Michael Showalter brings to the adaptation.
What is Verity about?
Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate. She has been engaged to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford, but the assignment takes a disturbing turn when Lowen discovers what appear to be Verity’s autobiographical notes. The writings contain unsettling confessions involving Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett. As Lowen reads further, she finds it increasingly difficult to separate fiction from reality. She must also distinguish manipulation from attraction and opportunity from obsession. The film’s central triangle is led by Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner also appear in the cast.
Michael Showalter directs the Colleen Hoover adaptation
Michael Showalter directs Verity from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, based on Hoover’s bestselling novel. The project brings the author’s psychological thriller to the screen with its ambiguous relationships and unreliable accounts at the forefront. Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway and Hoover are producers. Kerry Orent, Johnson and Lauren Levine serve as executive producers.
